Majority Congress delegates demand special convention

A petition signed by 53 percent of the Nepali Congress general convention representatives was submitted at the party headquarters on Wednesday, seeking a special general convention and election of a new leadership. Nepali Congress leader Gururaj Ghimire submitted the signatures to the acting party president, Purna Bahadur Khadka, at the party headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur. The Kathmandu Post

Party chief Sher Bahadur Deuba assigned the role of acting president to Khadka during a central working committee meeting. Khadka must now present the petition to the central working committee and take a decision on holding the general convention. The central working committee meeting will resume and the petition will be considered within party mechanisms. The Kathmandu Post

As per the Nepali Congress statute, if 40 percent of the general convention representatives demand a special convention with stated reasons, such a convention must be called within three months. After deducting automatic and departed representatives, the current number stands at 4,556 representatives; 2,488 have signed in favour of holding a special general convention. The Kathmandu Post

UML Central Committee meeting continues

The Central Committee meeting of the CPN (UML) will continue, with the second-day session scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Central committee members will present their views and suggestions on the special proposal put forward by party chair KP Sharma Oli. Around 100 members are expected to share their opinions, with each allotted three minutes to speak. Nepal News

The aftermath of the Gen Z protests has made arranging residences for politicians and top officials difficult. The government has struggled to secure suitable official housing after ministerial quarters and several leaders’ homes were damaged or set ablaze. Six suspected Sri Lankan underworld gang members arrested in Kathmandu

Police arrested six suspects in Kathmandu who are linked to the murder of Sri Lankan underworld leader Sanjeewa Kumara Samararathne. The arrests followed intelligence from Sri Lankan police and the Sri Lankan embassy in Kathmandu. The suspects were living across Kathmandu and Bhaktapur; Interpol red notices had been issued for them. Asia News Network

The latest jolt caused deep cracks in homes that had earlier been damaged, reviving trauma among locals and raising concerns about shelter and winter preparedness.
