Can Anil Sah Lead Janakpur Bolts This Season?

Anil Kumar Sah (born 17 November 1998) is a Nepalese cricketer. Wicketkeeper and batter Anil Kumar Sah fetched the biggest sum at the auction ahead of the first season of Nepal Premier League (NPL). Sah has joined Janakpur Bolts at Rs 1.5 million after the auction organized by Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) on Sunday. Opener Anil Sah scored a stellar unbeaten half-century as Janakpur Bolts defeated Karnali Yaks by eight wickets to continue their winning start in the Nepal Premier League T20 cricket tournament at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

He made his List A debut for Nepal in the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament on 12 February 2018. He made his Twenty20 debut for Nepal in the 2018 MCC Tri-Nation Series on 29 July 2018 and his ODI debut for Nepal against the Netherlands on 1 August 2018. He scored the most runs in the 2024 Prime Minister Cup, scoring 386 runs for Madhesh Province that led to his call up for the national side to play against the visitor Canada. Sah scored his first ton in ODI in his second appearance following the comeback against Canada in the 3rd ODI of the tournament; he scored 112* off 124 balls and won the player of the match. Captain Anil Shah’s unbeaten knock of 62 runs guided Janakpur Bolts to their second consecutive victory in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Chasing a target of 143, Sah and Aasif Sheikh set the tone with a formidable 84-run opening partnership, paving the way to achieve the target with 29 balls to spare. “I’m happy to have guided the team to victory. While it wasn’t a big target, it was a tricky chase, and the plan was to bat through the innings,” Sah said after the match.

Discussion:

  • How important will Anil Sah’s form from the 2024 PM Cup (386 runs) be for Janakpur Bolts in the next NPL season?
  • Given Sah’s unbeaten 62 in the Bolts’ chase, what should the Bolts’ batting strategy be when he is in the middle?
  • How much does Sah’s auction price (Rs 1.5 million) add to the expectations on him as both batter and captain for Janakpur?
  • With Sah having scored an ODI century (112*) after his comeback, how should the national form influence his role in the Bolts’ T20 plans?
  • If Sah is unavailable through injury, which players shown in NPL reports are best placed to step up for Janakpur?

Keep the discussion factual, respectful, and cricket-focused.
